Many of us did not grow up with the idea of self-care. We were raised to believe that we needed to “tough it out” and just keep “putting one foot in front of the other”. While that may be what we need to do, taking time out for ourselves – to nourish ourselves, calm our nerves and relax – will help us to be able to get through the more difficult and challenging times in life.
Self-care means different things to different people and may look different for different people. Some people may feel time to lie in the sun and read or just daydream recharges their batteries. Other people may like to work out to clear their head and feel their best. Others may find it helpful to practice meditation or pamper themselves to be the best self-care. Whatever form of self-care you choose, we may have books in our collection to better assist you in your pursuit of relaxation and rejuvenation.
If reading fiction is your favorite form of self-care, but you are having a hard time knowing which books to pick, we currently have a Readers’ Advisory form on our website that you can fill out and our librarians will use that information to select books for you based on your preferences and interests.
