JOB OPENING: YOUTH SERVICES/STEAM LIBRARIAN
FULL TIME

Rate: Dependent upon experience, starting at $49,500 annually

The Middlesex Public Library is on the hunt for a dynamic and innovative Librarian to join our staff full time, primarily in the area of Youth Services, but also as an in-house, all ages, STEAM Librarian. We’re looking for a Librarian to bring passion and enthusiasm to our Children’s Department in the areas of collection development and programming, as well as expand current collections and services for tween and teen populations.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Degree from accredited MLS program and NJ Professional Librarian Certificate required.
MLS candidates graduating in Spring or Summer 2019 will also be considered.
Professional library experience (especially with youth services) a plus, but not required
Candidates should have had coursework in service to children and teens, children’s and teen literature, and print and electronic reference resources
Ability to effectively use and demonstrate technology tools including the web, email, electronic databases, e-readers, office applications, etc.

JOB OPENING: CUSTODIAN, Part-Time
Approximately 20 hours per week, Mondays – Fridays, 8am – 12pm
Hourly rate: Dependent upon experience, starting at $16/hr

The Middlesex Public Library is seeking a reliable and responsible self-starter to keep the library clean, set up and break down meeting rooms, and provide general custodial support as needed.  The ideal candidate should be personable, able to work independently and read and follow written instructionsHousekeeping or custodial experience a plus.

Please Note:  Effective immediately, if you paid for lost materials, there will be no future refund given by the Middlesex Public Library should the materials be located at a later date.  Also, no replacement purchase of lost materials will be accepted in lieu of payment to the library for lost materials.



Public Notary Now Available!

The Library provides limited notary services on Thursday evenings from 5:00 PM – 8:30 PM. Please call the Library at 732-356-6602 before your visit to ensure that a notary is available to perform the service.

Ongoing Library Programs

Connections Discussion Group

The Connections Discussion Group seeks to explore the many various ways that individuals and social groups come together and find common grounds in the daily routines of their everyday lives. Call the Circulation Desk to sign up!

Young at Heart

A fun group for those adults who are still...young at heart! We enjoy playing games like Bingo, Are you Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, Password, etc. We also keep our minds sharp with crossword puzzles, word games, and word searches! And, of course, we enjoy our coffee, cake, and conversation! Call the Circulation Desk for meeting times and more information.

Quilt Making

The Heritage Quilters meet monthly. All are welcome. Come to have fun and participate in several ongoing charity projects. Registration or sign up is not required. Contact the Circulation Desk for more details.

ESL Conversation Group

The ESL Conversation Group meets weekly, and has two levels:

Intermediate: Tuesday, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm AND Thursday, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Beginner: Wednesdays, 1pm - 3pm

American History & Basics of American Citizenship Workshop

This course will introduce you to American History and prepare you to take and PASS the U.S. Citizenship interview and test!
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED - NO FEE

Holiday Library Closings


Board Meetings

The Middlesex Public Library Board meetings will be held at the Community Room of the library (1300 Mountain Avenue , Middlesex , NJ 08846 Tel: 732-356-6602) from 7:00 PM on the 2nd Monday of the month (exceptions for July and September).   There may be a closed session at each meeting to discuss matters related to collective bargaining, staffing and personnel.   

 


2018 Meeting Dates: January 8, February 12, March 12, April 9, May 14, June 11, July 30, August – No Meeting, September 10, October 1, November 5, December 10

Copies of Board meeting minutes are available by request. Please inquire at the Reference Desk. A current agenda for the upcoming meeting will be posted 48 hours prior to the upcoming meeting date, on the Library bulletin board.
